The fireworks have stopped. The party is over. Time to clean up and get ready for the new year. Before you set your 2010 marketing goals (hint, hint), I’d like to share three things you can do to improve your odds of success.
First, it’s tough to focus on new goals when your conscious mind is overflowing with to do lists, tasks, goals, worries, and everything else that accumulated in there in 2009. So your first assignment is to just do a brain dump of everything on your mind. Get it all out (yes… all of it). This was painful for me – I didn’t realize it, but I’ve been overloading my brain with to do lists and worries.
Second, it’s hard to fully focus when your subconscious mind is keeping track of unfinished projects, issues, and other “junk”.
What am I talking about?
Let’s say you walk through a room and you say to yourself, “I really need to clean up this room.” But you don’t really want to clean, so you go about your day. Meanwhile, your subconscious mind keeps repeating, “Have to clean the room, have to clean the room…”.
Press the reset button on your subconscious in two steps by a)writing down everything that is incomplete in your life and b)making a conscious decision to either do something about each item or to drop it completely.
I’m not going to kid you, this one can be uncomfortable. A lot of the stuff we push off onto our subconscious is stuff we don’t want to deal with. Just do it – you’ll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders when you’re done.
Third, trying to force yourself to do something you really don’t want to do is a losing battle.
You have to either convince yourself you want to take care of business or dump it. Dump it on someone else or dump it all together. There are plenty of places online where you can hire out stuff you just don’t want to do (Odesk, Guru.com, Elance, Rentacoder, etc.).
That’s it. Clear out all the old stuff you crammed into your mind in 2009 and you’ll be ready to tackle and achieve your goals for 2010.
What do you want to accomplish in 2010? What do you need to get done in your business? What marketing tips do you need to make it happen? Leave a comment. Tell me what you want to know and I’ll do my part to help out by answering your questions in future blog posts.
