</div>Do you know how it feels to invest a ton of your time and money into creating either a product, service or marketing campaign only to watch it fail miserably? </p>
<p>It&#8217;s not a good feeling&#8230; at all.  Lately, I&#8217;ve been working to eliminate that &#8220;sinking feeling&#8221; from my business.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been spending the last few months refining my marketing and product creation strategy to insure I fail as fast as possible.  On the face of it, that might sound crazy (and a little stupid), so let me explain with a little story.</p>
<p>Tell me if this sounds familiar.  You come up with a great idea for a product, service or marketing campaign.  You dive in and take action (thus beating out most people right away).  You stay up late and just pour your heart and soul into your &#8220;baby.&#8221;  You run into some roadblocks, but you forge ahead, confident in your creation. Finally, it comes time to deliver it to the market.  You roll out your marketing plan and&#8230; nothing happens.  Nobody wants what you have to offer.  You feel defeated and depressed.</p>
<p>It seems easy to create products and services that people want.  </p>
<p>It&#8217;s not.  </p>
<p>When I first started creating products and services on the internet, most of them flopped. Later I learned from a very successful marketer that most marketing campaigns and most products flop.  It just goes with the terrain.  You have to expect it and plan for it.</p>
<p>So what do you do?<br />
<span id="more-402"></span><br />
Figure out what your prospects want before you invest much time or energy to create it.  </p>
<p>In fact, invest only the time and energy it takes to see if your idea is in demand &#8211; and do it as fast as possible.  You can either engage your prospects directly or test a lot of ideas (and test them at the same time if you can).  If you&#8217;re just getting started, you may need to go the route of testing a lot of ideas until you build up a list of prospects or customers you can talk to.</p>
<p>The key to testing is to invest as little time setting up the test as possible.  Run as many tests as you can.  If you drive traffic to your test offers, it won&#8217;t be long before you can tell which offers are converting and which offers are duds.  This is key &#8211; you want to fail (and win) as fast as possible.</p>
<p>Drop the losers and ride the winners.  </p>
<p>The philosophy here is to figure out how to fail fast because the only resource you cannot recover is your time.  You can always make more money, but once your time is invested, it is a sunk cost.</p>
<p>If you have a list of prospects or customers, you are ahead of the curve.</p>
<p>Figure out how to engage your prospect.  Talk to them &#8211; ask them what they want, what they wish existed, and what they wish they didn&#8217;t have to deal with in their lives.  Let them define the product or service they already want to buy, then invest the time and money to create and deliver the product.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s my $0.02.  </p>

<p><a href="http://jasonrayers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/A-Billionaire-Owns-This.jpg"><img src="http://jasonrayers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/A-Billionaire-Owns-This-150x150.jpg" alt="" title="A-Billionaire-Owns-This" width="150" height="150" class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-393" /></a>In fact, I was driving by this stadium today when I realized, &#8220;Hey, that guy bought that stadium with money he made selling online education and information&#8230;&#8221;  </p>
<p>Of course, the smart way to work is to find someone who has already achieved the results you want and then model them.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m a BIG fan of modeling.  </p>
<p>After all, why reinvent the wheel if you can just do a little homework and replicate the systems and thought processes of someone who is already getting the results you want?  That&#8217;s what I did in this video about the <a href="http://jasonrayers.com/guru-blueprint-how-to-create-an-information-magic-formula-put-to-the-test">Guru Blueprint report</a> and the results speak for themselves.</p>
<p>Another way to look at this is to ask yourself, &#8220;Am I achieving the results I want right now with my current thinking and the actions I&#8217;m currently taking?&#8221;</p>
<p>If your answer is &#8220;no&#8221;, then it&#8217;s probably time to find a model.</p>
<p>Of course, modeling means replicating the easy AND the hard stuff.  That includes getting control of your time, your productivity, and facing your fears.  That part of the equation can be painful, but it&#8217;s worth it.<br />

Over the past year and a half, I&#8217;ve been modeling a number of successful people &#8211; one of them is Eben Pagan.  </p>
<p>Most of the process has been easy.  But I won&#8217;t kid you, some of it has been really tough.  In fact, I joke around with my friends that being an entrepreneur is great because it forces you to face yourself, your fears, and your weaknesses.  If you want to succeed, you just have to do it.</p>
<p>The good news is that the stuff that seemed really difficult looks pretty easy in retrospect.  I don&#8217;t know why, but I think we have a way of &#8220;making a mountain out of a mole hill.&#8221;  I&#8217;ve discovered that just because I don&#8217;t know how to do something means it&#8217;s only going to be painful until I get off my butt and take action.  </p>
<p>Taking action and staying focused seems to be the remedy for anxiety that accompanies the unknown.  Having a guide makes it that much easier.</p>
<p>If you want to create information products or to improve your online marketing, maybe you should consider modeling someone who can help you sidestep the mistakes and follow a proven path.</p>

<p>Well, I watched a very interesting video yesterday with Frank Kern, John Reese and Tony Robbins.</p>
<p>Every one of these guys was broke when they got started in marketing and information products.</p>
<p>I’ve been reading and listening to Tony Robbins since I was in high school.&#160; Tony’s area of expertise is in modeling highly successful people (do what they do and think like they think to achieve what they achieve).</p>
<p>John Reese was the first internet marketer to make over 1 million dollars in 24 hours. </p>

<p>Frank Kern was the marketer behind 3 launches that did just north of $24 million.</p>
<p>So, no slouches in the room</p>
<p>Well, they put together a video where they discover why some people can force themselves to take massive action while others buy courses like Mass Control 2.0 only to let them collect dust.</p>
<p>I watched the video this morning and I was blown away.&#160; </p>
<p>I actually figured out why I wasn’t more successful in my last career even though I was really good at what I did.</p>
<p>After I watched it, I had a super productive day and created 7 marketing pieces.</p>

<p>No matter how good your game is, you can always improve.</p>
<p>Before the seminar, I used a pretty involved process to focus on the benefits desired by my customer.  In reality, I was just focusing on the tip of the iceberg.</p>
<p>Now I have a 21-step process to drive my marketing message home.</p>
<p>Your customer is being overwhelmed with marketing messages from ads in their inbox to product placement in movies, videos and music.</p>
<p>Now more than ever, your marketing has to resonate with your customer.</p>
<p>So what did I learn?</p>
<p><span id="more-117"></span></p>
<p>The more you understand and empathize with your customer, the more you can help him or her.</p>
<p>Put in the time up front to really understand your customer’s underlying desires and fears.  Drill down as far as you can.  As long as you stay concrete and specific, it’s hard to drill down too deep.</p>
<p>Here’s why…</p>
<p>When you craft a marketing message based on your customer’s deep-seated, underlying “hot buttons”, you create a message that will resonate.  If your marketing doesn’t resonate, your customer will just filter it out and go about their day.</p>
<p>Here’s your homework assignment (if you dare):</p>
<ol>
<li>Identify your customer’s underlying desires, fears and frustrations (“hot buttons”).  Remember to keep drilling down.</li>
<li>Next, review the marketing you use to attract your customer into your sales funnel.  Does your marketing speak to your customer’s hot buttons?</li>
<li>If you need to rewrite any marketing, do it and split test it against your current marketing (your “control”).</li>
</ol>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Have you ever looked at a long sales letter or landing page and said to yourself,  “I would never read all of that.”?</p>
<p>And you probably wouldn’t unless…</p>
<p>You were actively looking for the solution to an emotional need, if you had few perceived options, and if you were proactively looking for a solution. Then I would just need to<em> </em>capture your attention with a headline that makes you want to see what my offer can do for you.</p>
<p><strong>When should you consider a long copy landing page?</strong></p>
<p>Higher priced products usually require longer copy (and so do information products).</p>
<p>Think about it.  It’s not easy for me to get you to pull out your credit card.  The higher the price, the more resistance I have to overcome, and the more copy I need to get the job done.</p>
<p><span id="more-68"></span></p>
<p>So how long should your copy be?  Long enough to do the job and not one word longer.</p>
<p><strong>Does long copy always work?</strong></p>
<p>Nope.  You may find a free video or report followed by educational emails will beat out the long-copy sales letter.  This can be especially true if your prospects need to build up their confidence before they can picture themselves using your product.</p>
<p>Experiment with different sales funnels (sales letter, video sales letter, video opt-in, etc.).</p>
<p><strong>How do you optimize your landing page and your sales process?</strong></p>
<p>Split Test, split test, split test.</p>
<p>Split testing is the only way to discover which variables will lead to higher conversion.  You can start with an A-B split test where you change only one variable at a time and measure the conversion rate.</p>
<p>Thanks to Google, you can split test for free with Google Website Optimizer.</p>
<p>Another tool I use daily that allows you to do A-B split tests and more complex Taguchi testing is <a href="http://jasonrayers.com/go/affiliate-prophet/" target="_blank">Affiliate Prophet</a> (my affiliate link).</p>
<p><strong>Are There Any Shortcuts?</strong></p>
<p>Yep.  Test, test, test AND <em>learn from the testing that’s already been done by other marketers</em>.  Why not learn from the best and build on their knowledge?</p>
<p>One of the products I use is <a href="http://jasonrayers.com/go/43-Split-Tests/" target="_blank">43 Split Tests</a>.  It reveals the results of over 43 split tests on landing pages and order pages (of course it’s my affiliate link &#8211; this is a marketing blog after all).</p>

<li>Upload a description of what you want (design brief)</li>
<li>Set your budget (the prize for the winning design)</li>
<li>Give feedback to all the designers that submit a design</li>
<li>Select your favorite design at the end of the contest (usually 7 days) and pay the designer the prize amount.</li>
<li>The designer sends you the completed design and your copyright to the original art work.</li>
</ol>
